In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

About

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure where eggs are retrieved from a woman’s ovaries, and sperm is collected from a male partner. The egg and sperm are then combined in a lab for fertilization. Once the fertilized egg (zygote) develops into an embryo after 3–5 days, it is transferred to the uterus with the goal of establishing a successful pregnancy. IVF is recommended in cases where there are issues such as blocked fallopian tubes, low ovarian reserve, or male factor infertility, such as low sperm count.

Why is IVF done?

IVF Procedure

IVF is an effective solution for couples facing infertility due to blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, male infertility, unexplained infertility, or ovulation disorders. This minimally invasive procedure increases the chances of a successful pregnancy, making it a popular choice for couples seeking to grow their families.

Ovarian Stimulation & Monitoring

Hormonal medications are given to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. The doctor monitors the progress through pelvic ultrasound scans to assess follicle growth and the timing of ovulation.

Egg Retrieval

When the eggs are ready, they are collected from the ovaries using a vaginal ultrasound-guided procedure under mild anesthesia. This is a painless process with no incisions.

Semen Preparation

A sperm sample from the partner is collected and processed in the lab to select healthy, motile & Morphological sperm.

Fertilization

The sperm and eggs are combined in a dish for conventional fertilization, or a single sperm is injected into each egg using Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) for more controlled fertilization.

Embryo Transfer

The fertilized embryo is transferred into the uterus using a catheter. This is a simple and painless procedure.

Follow-Up

Two weeks after the procedure, a blood pregnancy test is conducted to confirm if the procedure was successful.

Higher Success Rates

IVF offers a greater chance of conception, especially for couples facing complex fertility issues.

Suitable for Various Conditions

IVF helps overcome multiple infertility challenges, including blocked fallopian tubes, severe male infertility, and unexplained infertility.

Embryo Screening

Advanced genetic testing (PGT) during IVF can screen embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, improving the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

Option to Preserve Fertility

IVF allows egg or embryo freezing, giving individuals the flexibility to plan pregnancy later in life.
